Want to make a difference in a teenager's life? Had a mentor that made an impact in your life? Easy communication through email, phone, and zoom. (We are assessing whether in-person meetings are possible in the 2021-2022 school year.)
Mentoring Program:Carlmont High School in Belmont, Biotechnology Institute Program (BTI) is looking for mentors in the biotechnology industry. The mentor program will pair students with professionals to discuss both academic and career goals. The students' career interests are widespread ranging from engineering, programming, and sales to working directly in a laboratory. I'm hoping that you, or someone that you know, might be able to participate in this program as a mentor.
Commitment:Approximately 2-3 hours per month through zoom, email, phone, or text messaging from November through May 2022. (We are assessing whether in-person meetings are possible for the 2021-2022 school year.)
There will be a 1-hour kick-off event planned for November 2021. In addition, we would like to give students some insight into all the different careers that mentors hold with career round tables.

Don't have the time for an ongoing commitment? Then join us for an hour or two at our annual BTI Symposium. This one-morning event held each year is a great way to see what BTI is all about and share your experience in a small group setting; themes include career round tables and hot topics in science.
Our nextBiotech Symposium will be held in the spring, 2022,and we are looking for local biotech professionals to spend one to two hours with our students. (We are assessing whether this event will be held remotely or in person.) The symposium will be structured like this:
Session 1 -- Biotech Career Round Tables-- Professionals will speak in a small group format about their careers, educational backgrounds, current work, and the pros and cons of their fields. Students will have 15 minutes with each professional and then rotate to the next. Ideally, a variety of fields will be represented.
Session 2 -- Hot Topics-- Professionals will each speak for 15 minutes on a hot topic in the biotech field. Presenters will introduce their concept, provide a bit of background information, explain the application's promise, and the ethical issues regarding its use. Topics might include:
